Dr. Jon Schwartzbauer, CEO

A Sherman alumnus, Schwartzbauer was president of Sherman College of Chiropractic from 2007 til December 31st 2012. Jon brought a breadth of academic, leadership and administrative experience, as well as a passionate commitment to vertebral subluxation-centered chiropractic. He previously served the college as vice president for academic affairs, director of the Leadership and Practice Management Institute and a member of the Chiropractic Health Center faculty. Schwartzbauer owned and operated Straight Chiropractic Center in Mahtomedi, MN, for five years before he joined the Sherman College faculty in 2002. He also served as team chiropractor for the St. Paul Saints, a minor league baseball team in their home state of Minnesota. In addition to the doctor of chiropractic degree he earned in 1997, Schwartzbauer holds a B.S. from Excelsior College.

It is this passion that allows me and all of us at UCHC, to provide our franchisees with the tools they need to make their practices successful.


Dr. Thad Vuagniaux, CoFounder

As an Upper Cervical doctor who built one of the world’s largest 100% referral-only Upper Cervical practices, I know the importance of over-the-top customer service. UCHC prides itself on exceeding each of our franchisee’s expectations for customer service and teaching them how to do the same for their patients.




Glenda Cooke, Operations Manager

Glenda has over 12 years of experience building and managing Upper Cervical practices. She has vast experience dealing with insurance companies, billing and coding, developing office policies, implementing multiple marketing programs, hiring and training staff members, organizing and keeping up with office stats and managing multiple high volume Upper Cervical practices at the same time.

Glenda has been training doctors and staff on opening, operating and building Upper Cervical practices since 1998. She now works as Director of Operations for UCHC where she works to train doctors and office staff on the systems she helped develop over the last 12 years. Glenda teaches the UCHC procedures through seminars, in-office training and one-on-one phone consultations. Glenda thrives on setting patient and financial goals for new UCHC offices and seeing that those goals are achieved.

Billy Doherty, Director of Marketing

Prior to joining UCHC full time in 2006, Billy worked 12 years as a creative director for an advertising firm in Cornelius, NC creating results driven, strategic marketing solutions for a wide array of medical and financial businesses. It was only after he experienced the power of Upper Cervical that he joined UCHC full time to help create public awareness of this best kept secret in health care.

Billy's primary responsibility as the UCHC Marketing Director is to assist the franchisees with their planning and implementation of marketing programs that will educate and motivate potential patients to take action. What he provides to each franchisee is the knowledge of what programs have worked well and ones that have not. Together they learn from them and tweak the programs to ensure success with future implementation. He then shares the programs as they evolve with the entire UCHC family and adds them to the extensive library of marketing programs that UCHC has available.

Ultimately, the decision to be successful in practice falls on the shoulders of one person – the doctor. Regardless of the marketing programs made available them, the doctor is the limiting factor as to whether they are successful or not successful in practice. The marketing programs provided are vehicles to educate and generate awareness of the valuable service they provide. The doctor needs to be a MASTER of his/her technique. Once the doctor attracts new patients, they need to get results – bottom line! Patients are already skeptical. Once they are in their office, the doctor must educate, analyze and execute.

In his experience over the past five years, the most successful practices are referral based (because they are getting results) and the ones who implement grassroots marketing programs. These programs require the investment of TIME over money. The Upper Cervical story requires time to tell. Getting out and building relationships in their community’s is the most successful method of building a practice.

Brian P. Gavigan, Health Care Attorney

Brian P. Gavigan is a health care attorney and has focused his practice on the representation of health care providers and health care institutions. He has significant experience in health care transactions and health care litigation and recently served as President of The North Carolina Society of Health Care Attorneys.
